I am so close to getting this Starburst Quilt done! It’s been a work-in-progress for over a year now and made its debut to my UFO (unfinished object) list in January 2020. It was supposed to be done by January 30 of that year, yet….here we are. But I am happy to say that we are getting there. The first delay in this project came as we were trying to complete several orders for those cute little cross-body bags we were making. Then COVID happened. No words needed. The next time I pulled this project out was when I laid out the squares to see how it would turn out. I toyed with putting white sashing around the blocks. After having sashed the Wonky Squares project, I decided against sashing this one. I was just going for straight a square-within-square look assembled side-by-side. The problem was, the quilt would not be large enough now to cover a twin sized bed even with borders. I needed to add more squares. I constructed an additional row, then cut 2 ½ inch solid strips for another row. These strips and squares were once again placed into the project bin as we immersed ourselves into the busy summer gardening season. The new garden pests and weeds we discovered this past summer left quilting and sewing on the back burner. Now it’s winter and the anniversary of Starburst’s first emergence from the UFO bin. Here we go again. I hope to be celebrating at least the completion of the quilt top by the end of... next month. Once the strips are put together, I've got to consider the 3 B's: borders, backing and binding. Let’s see how it goes.
